Pilot phase – testing of the online course platform and the new VET programs

Estimated start date: 1.9.2021

Estimated end date: 30.6.2023

Lead organisation: The Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic

THE AIM is to pilot the new VET curricula (EQF 4) in order to obtain feedback from target groups and analyse the participants´ learning results.

Pilot phase will be designed for both teachers / trainers and students.

From each VET school partnering in the project (as a full or an associated partner), 2-3 teachers and 8-12 students per each field are expected to register into the pilot phase, i.e. 12 teachers (or trainers) and 40-60 students.

Step 1 :  Piloting the theoretical part of the curricula

Due to project time restrictions (to the maximal project duration of 3 years), piloting of the new VET programs will be carried out at level 3 of the European Qualification Framework, although the newly developed VET programs may include a curricula for the level 4 as well.  Thus, a core trunk of any future VET program will be tested.

The pilot phase is expected to run during 15 months – 34 weeks of a school year 1 and 17 weeks of a school year 2. Its start is expected at the beginning of the school year 2021/2022.

The theoretical part will be taught via webinars, which will be given by project experts once a week. They will be held in English and streamlined via the online course platform. Each webinar will last about 90 minutes.

Webinars will be completed by learning materials, videos and 3D visualisations accessible on the open online courses platform. Participants´ understanding will be continuously verified through homework’s and interactive online tests

Step 2 : Piloting the practical part of the curricula

Practical training will be ensured at 2 levels:

At the national level, trainings will be ensured in cooperation with companies and other stakeholders contacted in the work package 3  (step 4) and work package 5 (step 1). This training will be arranged for by each VET provider, based on individual cooperation agreements. Experience and good practices from the cooperation and trainings will be shared among all partners and reflected in the final pilot phase evaluation report.

At the project level, the following activities will take place with the aim to train practical skills of participants:

International workshops I

The first training of practical skills will take place at the end of the school year 1 (in month 17-18) of the pilot phase in the Czech Republic. There will be a workshop of drone programming and operating and a workshop of VR programming (developing), both open to all teachers (trainers) and students enrolled in the pilot phase. With regards to the total number of expected participants (8-12 teachers and 40-60 students), in the duration of 5 days.

Training will be given by the project experts (the Czech VR Agency and Robodrone) in English. Equipment and teaching rooms of their organizations will be used.

Individual student projects and international student competition

During the school year 2 (months 21-26 of the project), students will work in teams on individual projects focused on solving practical tasks. Project themes and concrete tasks may be suggested by companies cooperating with VET providers on the new curricula implementation (as a result of the work package 3, step 4).

An international competition of student teams will be organised during that period. The best projects will be selected in month 27, after the end of the pilot phase.

Teacher individual training in course development

During the school year 2 (months 21-26), teachers and trainers enrolled in the pilot phase will be given editing rights to the content of the online course platform and will be asked to develop their individual teaching courses, using the videos, materials and information published on the online platform.

VET providers and their teachers (trainers) will be individually supported in teaching of the new VET programs in their schools, should they decide to open the VET programs already in the school year 2021/2022 (i.e. in the 2nd year of the pilot phase).

International workshops II

The second international workshop in each field will take place in Spain in month 28 of the project and will be attended in particular by teachers (trainers), but also by students from teams having ranked best in the project international student competition. The expected number of participants of workshop is about 27 persons (12 teachers/trainers and about 15 students). The expected duration is 3 days. The workshop will be held again in English and ensured by expert partners (including equipment).

A session on didactic approaches and examination process will be held for teachers (trainers).

Step 3 : Piloting final graduate examination process

In month 29-30 of the project, members of the international evaluation committee will do a tour around partner countries and a final graduate exams will take place in each country. The examination process and methodology will follow the rules and principles described in the Qualification standard developed in the work package 1 (step 4). Successful graduates, both teachers (trainers) and students, will receive a joint European certificate designed in the work package 1 (step 4).  A stay of 2 days of the committee members per each country is foreseen by the project planning.

Step 4 : Finalising VET programs and online courses platform

Feedback from participants in the pilot phase, statistics and reports will be evaluated in the work package 5 (in month 31-32). Based on evaluation reports, the curricula and the online course platform will be improved and finalized during months 33-35.
